President of the Nigeria’s senate, Godswill Akpabio during the valedictory session held in the Senate chamber on 11th of December in honour of the newly sworn in governor of Edo State, Monday Okpebholo, taunted senator Adams Oshiomhole over a possible rivalry with his political godson, Monday Okpebholo.

In a subtle warning to Oshiomhole, the Senate president teased him over the possibility of the governor of Edo State, Monday Okpebholo competing with him in future for the senatorial ticket of the All Progressive Congress (APC). He suggested that the governor might have an upper hand in such a contest; hence, might retire Oshiomhole politically.

But Oshiomhole reminded the Senate president that himself and the current governor of Edo State, Monday Okpebholo do not hail from same senatorial district.

Senator president Akpabio said to Oshiomhole: “Distinguished Senator Oshiomhole, before you stop, I thought he was from your senatorial district?”

And Adams Oshiomhole responded: “No, sir, he’s from Edo Central.”

The Senate president further taunted: “Okay, otherwise he may retire you when he comes back”.

However, Oshiomhole was able to dismiss the warning by citing that he might have retired from active politics the time the governor of Edo State, Monday Okpebholo might chose to return to the Senate: ” By the time he’s coming back, I might already be retired, because if you add eight years to the current figure, I do not intend to do three terms here.”
