The former Governor of Rivers State, Nyesom, has replied to the Ijaw Nation High Chief’s call for forgiveness on his successor, Siminalayi Fubara, the suspended governor of Rivers State. The FCT minister has asserted that Siminalayi hasn’t asked for forgiveness.
This statement which was made through the FCT minister’s aide, Lere Olayinka, is a response to the call made by the Ijaw leader, Tompolo, to forgive the governor of Rivers State. Recall that Tompolo, during his birthday anniversary Tompolo, former leader of the Niger-Delta militant group, had assured the people of Rivers State that he would call òn the former Rivers State Governor and talk to him about forgiving and reconciling with his successor, Fubara.
The aide also asserted that Siminalayi hasn’t accepted that he has offended the FCT Minister, and hence must first of accept that he has offended him. Wike’s Aide further asserted that the FCT minister has never accused Fubara of an individual offense, but rather of not adhering to governance regulations. He also added:
“The minister has never said that Fubara offended him personally. He only said that Fubara should govern in accordance with the rule of law, that Fubara should not throw away those who risked their lives and resources, and that is not too much to ask. ‘Those who worked to make you governor, don’t throw them away like that. ’ So, that is not about forgiveness. If there is one person Fubara would say he has offended, it should be the President.”
Meanwhile, other persons are of different opinions when it comes to the Rivers State crisis. The PDP’s spokesman for the National Youth Group has asserted that Wike stands to gain a lot from the crisis. He added that the APC has used him to gain control of the state as they have always wanted. He further stated that the move was a strategic one as it helps to weaken the state in preparation for the 2027 polls.
