Delta State Police Command spokesperson, Edafe Bright has reminded Nigerians who desire the Nigeria police force to operate as the US police that the Nigeria society impacts on the Police Force.

Bright Edafe through his X handle argues that the Nigeria police is a reflection of the Nigeria society; hence, cannot be different from it. He noted that those who desire the Nigeria police force to operate as the US police must understand that the society where police officers operate determine their behavior; as a result, if they are to operate as US policemen do, Nigerians must collectively change their behavior to that of the US citizens.

He thereafter appealed to Nigerians to see the challenges facing the Nigeria police force as a collective, national issues which require collective behavioural change to remedy.

“We all want the Nigeria Police to be like the US police, it’s good, and it’s very good to wish for the best. But do we behave and act like US citizens? The Police they say are a reflection of society. While we do our best to change the narratives, let us understand that it’s a collective battle to be better. Peace”, he wrote.

According to World Internal Security and Police Index International(WISPI) report in 2016, the Nigeria Police Force ranks the worst globally especially in handling internal security issues.

While the leadership of country as well as Nigerians continue to desire a more professional framework for the police, the indices that earned the Nigeria police force the ranking as the worst in the world, are still prevalent in the country.
