Former governor of Osun State and immediate past minister of interior, Rauf Aregbesola has declared that Nigeria is incapable of being a functional nation under the current presidential system of government.
The former governor and minister who spoke in Abuja at national dialogue on parliamentary system, called for the country to revert to Parliamentary system of government at the expense of its current presidential system.
He explained that no individual is capable of administrating more than two hundred millions people effectively and efficiently without proper and effective checkmating. He said irrespective of who becomes Nigeria’s president that the country is incapable of achieving its needed peace and progress under the presidential system of government.
He appealed that it is time for Nigeria to alter its constitution and revert to the more effective and efficient parliamentary system.
Aregbesola spoke in support of the ongoing bill in the Nigeria’s House of Representatives which seeks Nigeria’s return to parliamentary system of government.
“I believe the collective arrangement which the parliamentary system guarantees is best for a nation like Nigeria if indeed we are committed to advancing the interest of the large population and mass of our people,” Aregbesola is quoted to have said
