Notable investigative Nigerian journalist, David Hundeyin has praised Ghana for its peacefulness and lack of political violence.
David Hundeyin who at present enjoys asylum in Ghana disclosed through his X handle that the Ghanian law enforcement personnels hardly engage in careless conducts at the expense of human life. According to him, of all the former British colonies in Africa, Ghana stands out for its lack of violence.
“One thing I’ll always appreciate about Ghana is how much it lacks the atmosphere of violence that characterizes most of the former English colonies on the continent. It is actually very rare for Ghanaian security or law enforcement to take a life. I hope they never change”, David Hundeyin wrote.
The fearless investigative journalist had fled Nigeria and taken asylum in Ghana following the unrest that resulted from the youth protest against police brutality in Nigeria in 2020. His contribution to the national protest and the consequent hunt for his kind by the Nigeria government led by Muhammadu Buhari was the reason he fled his home country.
He has since then remained in Ghana despite the change of government in Nigeria. The current Nigerian president, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, David Hundeyin in his series of investigative report releases, accused of illicit drug trafficking, identity theft, forfeiting four hundred and sixty thousand dollar proceed of illicit drugs to the US government, and possession of dual citizenship which according to him (David Hundeyin) disqualifies him from the office of the Nigeria’s president by the Nigeria’s 1999 constitution.
There are also reports that the current leadership in Nigeria has made several effort to ensure that David Hundeyin’s asylum status in Ghana is revoked by the Ghanian government. David Hundeyin is accused of inciting his followers against the Tinubu’s leadership and making unsavoury claims about the Nigeria’s president.
However, it’s understood that the Ghanian government would not revoke the asylum granted to the journalist who is said not to have committed any offence that warranted the revocation of his asylum.
The journalist remains a formidable voice in the call for a new Nigeria. His support for the presidential candidate of the Labour Party in 2023 general elections in Nigeria, Mr. Peter Obi remains unchanged as his influence among the Nigeria youths especially on social media who desire a working nation for themselves.
