Popular activist for good governance and blogger, Verydarkman has been arrested and detained by the Nigeria police.
His lawyer, Adeyanju Deji confirmed on his Facebook page that Verydarkman has been detained by the Nigeria police.
” Our client, VDM has been detained after honouring police invitation just like yesterday. VDM has been consistent in saying the Nigerian Police are our friends even when we all know they are not”.
The blogger was invited for questioning by the police yesterday over his authorized use of a dummy Nigeria police uniform in his social media content. The blogger adorned the uniform of the Nigeria police in his advocacy video which he posted across his social media pages. He claimed in the video to be the Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP) online division.
The video gained the interest of the Nigeria police who immediately issued a statement in respect to Verydarkman’s authorized use of the Nigeria police uniform.
He was thereafter invited by the police for questioning. Verydarkman would be freed after honouring the police invitation on the 30th of October. He was invited by the police again on the 31st of October and would be detained by the police after honouring their invitation.
Following his first invitation for questioning by the police, Verydarkman tendered a public apology to the Nigeria Police Force over his unauthorized use of a dummy police uniform. He thereafter appealed to content creators and filmmaker to desist from using materials associated with the Nigeria Police Force without obtaining permission.
“I didn’t intend to impersonate the police in anyway and I tender my unreserved apologies to the Nigeria police force and the office of the Inspector General of Police”, he said in his apology.
“And also I will like to use this medium to tell the general public to always seek permission from the police or other law enforcement agencies before using anything that might look like their uniform”
