State-governors elected on the platform of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) have responded to threats cum warnings from former governor of Rivers state and minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike.
Wike had a few days ago threatened to ignite political crises in the states of the members of the PDP governors forum who are supporting his successor, Sim Fubara amid his political feud with him.
Wike vowed to resist any attempt by the PDP governors forum to hijack the structure of the PDP in Rivers state from him.
The PDP governors had met in Enugu state and Taraba state where they openly declared their support for governor Sim Fubara.
The chairman of the PDP governors forum, Bala Muhammed in a press statement, noted that the PDP governors forum will continue to support governor Sim Fubara in line with forum’s longstanding principle: “touch one, touch all” which Wike a former member of the forum enjoyed.
Governor Bala Muhammed further described Wike’s threat to “put fire” in the states of governors supporting Sim Fubara as “unfortunate” and “irresponsible”. He said such a remark is unworthy of a public servant and an ex- member of the PDP governors forum. He said at the moment that Nigeria is grappling with insecurity and effort being made to unify the country, such an statement by Wike undermines true and genuine effort to promote peace and social cohesion.
“It is rather unfortunate that this is coming from someone who was once a member of this highly revered forum as a former governor,” the statement read in part.
He said the forum will review it earlier stance to support governor Sim Fubara at the expense of the interest of any other person no matter how highly placed.
