Nigeria’s President, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, met up in Paris, France, with the United States State Department Senior Advisor for Africa, Massad Boulos, on Thursday. President Tinubu’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, stated this on his X account on Friday.
The post stated that the duo had high-level of discussions centered on regional security. There was also emphasis on collaborating with partners to suggest and build a long lasting peace in the Eastern Democratic Republic of Congo. This will as well lead to economic cooperation across the African continent.
Onanuga also specified that the meeting touched on the growing friendly engagement between Nigeria and the United States under Tinubu’s government. He wrote:
“State Department Senior Advisor for Africa Massad Boulos met with President Tinubu on Thursday to discuss regional security including working together with partners to build a durable peace in eastern DRC. They also discussed expanding opportunities for economic cooperation throughout Africa.”
Social media users rushed to the comment section to air their views. While some praised President Tinubu for his efforts, others found a way to criticise. One particular user @iamsholatomori commented: “Jagaban himself. Just finding a way to cover up the mess. You shaa want to prove us wrong that you are not in France for a medical check-up.”
Meanwhile, reports as of last week noted that President Tinubu left the country for France on official duty. However, subsequent reports and social media posts from prominent table shakers asserted that the president wasn’t on an official duty. Some others pointed out that the president and his spokesperson are prone to misinforming the entire populace of Nigeria, while the citizens themselves refuse to seek out the right information.
On the other hand, some other prominent individuals asserted the president went for a medical check up. This statement further triggered agitation about the state of Nigeria medical sector specifically, the government-owned hospitals. Netizens were dropping statistics of nurses, and other health practitioners who have relocated to other countries in search of greener pastures.
