Peter Obi has reacted to the recent lamentation from the chairman of Dangote groups, Alhaji Aliko Dangote.

Aliko Dangote has been in the news for his recent tussle with the Nigeria’s government over the licencing of his refinery in Nigeria.

Farouq Ahmad, the chief executive officer of the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Authority (NMDPA) had in a press statement disclosed that the Dangote refinery was at its 45% completion, unready to bear the petroleum burden of the nation. He added that the petroleum product refined at the Dangote refinery is inferior compared to the imported one. According to Farouq Ahmad, for fear of monopoly, the Dangote refinery would not be only petroleum supplier to the petroleum marketers in the country.

Hence, the presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP) in the Nigeria’s 2023 general elections, Mr. Peter Obi through his X handle on 22nd of July, 2024, while addressing Nigeria’s falling economy and it dire effect on livelihood, alluded the recent development involving the Dangote group and the Nigeria’s government.

Mr. Peter Obi stated that the nine-year reign of the All Progressive Congress (APC) over the country has brought immense economic retrogression on the nation. He noted that both foreign and local investors are losing confidence in the country. Mr. Peter Obi in his tweet alluded to Dangote’s tantrum in which he disclosed that the board of Dangote groups has called off plan to invest in steel production in Nigeria. He also disclosed that he is now being mocked by his unnamed friend who had advised him against investing in Nigeria.

 

“Today, poverty is pervasive and on the increase. Unemployment is rising. Food inflation has skyrocketed to over 43%.

Foreign and local investors are losing faith in the future growth of our economy and are leaving in large numbers”, Mr. Peter Obi wrote.
