Former governor of Kano State, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso in his recent interview declared his willingness to become Peter Obi’s running mate in 2027 presidential election.
The former governor of Kano had prior to the 2023 presidential election, resisted persuasion to become Peter Obi’s running mate. He instead ran on the platform of the New Nigeria’s People’s Party (NNPP) where he came fourth in the presidential election.
Speaking about the 2027 presidential election, Rabiu Kwankwaso revealed that he would accept to become Obi’s running mate if Peter Obi would run single-term presidency and then return power to the north.
He said such a condition would earn Obi the needed trust among the Northerners and the specifically the northern political elite who might be wary of Peter Obi.
The Labour Party (LP) while reacting to Kwankwaso’s stance, described his offer to become Obi’s running mate as a “welcomed development”.
Ahead of the 2027 presidential election, Nigerian politicians have started synergizing across party lines to consolidate their political strength in view of retrieving power from the All Progressive Congress (APC).
