Former Super Eagles of Nigeria captain and Chelsea legend, John Mikel Obi has provided needed clarity to why Victor Osimhen’s anticipated switch from Napoli FC to Chelsea FC fell through.
Mikel Obi prior to the official opening of the transfer window, wooed both Victor Osimhen and Chelsea FC on the need for the player to join the English club. He positioned Osimhen through his podcast as one possessing the veritable qualities to solve Chelsea’s striking problems.
However, the transfer window ended without Victor Osimhen making the widely publicized switch from Napoli FC to Chelsea.
According to Mikel Obi, it is untrue that Victor Osimhen demanded half a million pound as his weekly wages from Chelsea. Mikel Obi stated that wages were not the major reason that made the deal collapse. He said both parties had reached an agreement; however, there was no time for the medical examination to be conducted on the player.
“There was no time for the medical to be done even if the deal was done. It was too late”, he said.
He added that against the speculation on the media that Victor Osimhen demanded outrageous amount from Chelsea, the player only demanded what was fair and worthy of a player of his calibre.
“A player demanding what he wants is not a problem.
“We were very very close. It was hours away to get it done. But there were slight issues.
