A group of concerned Ikwerre indigenes has announced plans to establish a new Ogbakor Ikwerre organization aimed at promoting the welfare of the Ikwerre people and strengthening their connection to the larger Igbo nation.
In their statement, the group expressed dissatisfaction with the current Ogbakor Ikwerre, accusing it of failing to represent the true interests of the Ikwerre people. They alleged that the organization has been influenced by certain “misguided socio-cultural elements” and no longer prioritizes the needs and aspirations of the people it claims to serve.
The group emphasized their commitment to preserving the true heritage of the Ikwerre people, who they identified as an integral part of the Igbo family. According to them, the new Ogbakor Ikwerre will provide a unified platform for all Iwhuruoha sons and daughters in Rivers State, ensuring their voices are heard and their cultural identity is celebrated.
Criticizing the current leadership of Ogbakor Ikwerre, the group accused it of losing touch with the values and traditions of the Ikwerre people. They vowed to create an organization that genuinely represents and uplifts the community, aligning with their shared heritage and vision for the future.
