Ugandan General Muhoozi Kainerugaba, son of President Yoweri Museveni, has sparked widespread reactions following a bold statement about Nigerian Afrobeats star Ayra Starr. Posting on his official X account, Kainerugaba declared: “My late Grandfather…Mzee Amos gave me permission to get any woman on earth! I will capture that girl… Ayra Starr.”

Ayra Starr, whose real name is Oyinkansola Aderibigbe, is a 22-year-old Nigerian musician and songwriter. She is signed to Mavin Records and has gained significant recognition for hits like “Rush” and “Away.” Her stellar performance at the 27th edition of Blankets and Wine in July 2024, where she performed alongside South African duo Blaq Diamond, has further enhanced her international reputation.
At 50 years old, General Kainerugaba is a key figure in Uganda, serving as a senior military officer and the president’s son. Known for his active and often controversial presence on social media, his recent comment about Ayra Starr has drawn particular scrutiny. Critics have questioned the language used, particularly the term “capture,” which some interpret as objectifying and inappropriate, especially for someone in his position of influence.

The statement has prompted a range of reactions online. Some users criticized the phrasing, with one remarking, “Military men should learn to be romantic; what’s with using ‘capture’? She’s not an object.” Another joked, “Commandant wants to capture a woman Commando based on his late grandfather’s orders.”

Other comments took a humorous turn. One user quipped, “Ayra Starr is wealthier than the entire Ugandan government, including the president. Try elsewhere, my friend.” Another jested, “You can capture her by allocating your country’s GDP for the next four years.”
As of now, Ayra Starr has not responded to the declaration. However, the incident has sparked broader discussions about the implications of personal statements made by public figures, particularly those holding power. Critics argue that such remarks can undermine respect for individual agency and raise concerns about how influential individuals use their platforms.
