The governor of Bauchi state, Bala Muhammed is reported by Daily Post to have appealed to president Bola Ahmed Tinubu to get Nigerians of brilliant mind into his cabinet.

Governor Bala Muhammed who is also the leader of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) governors forum, insinuated that president Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s current team is full of hypocrite who are inept and offers only praises to the president. He said those in the current cabinet of president Tinubu are either for political compensation or for political calculation ahead of the 2027 general elections.

He said those in the current government of Tinubu are incapable of turning around the country’s wobbling economy and insecurity. He added that the members of president Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s government are only good at blindly praising him not minding the country numerous challenges occasioned by his questionable economic and monetary polices.

Governor Bala Muhammed suggested that the president must get competent hands such as former vice president Yemi Osinbajo, former governor Fayemi who were prominent members of his governorship administration in Lagos. The Bauchi state governor said the success recorded by Tinubu as a governor of Lagos is due to the brilliant and competent persons he worked with.

As result, he enjoins the president to do away with his current crop of incompetent praise-singing cabinet members necessary to rescue the country from its current economic and security challenges.

Governor Bala pointed out that he is not speaking as a member of an opposition party but as a Nigerian who is determined to speak truth to the government especially as living in Nigeria is becoming increasingly difficult with high rising cost of living occasioned by president Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s economic and monetary polices.

He enjoined the president to review his monetary policy as well as his decision to remove subsidy on PMS. Governor Bala said only a few Nigerians can afford what to eat in the current economic reality in the country.

President Tinubu had in his inaugural address on May 29th 2023, announced that the government of the federation will cease to subsidize pms for the Nigeria’s populace. He argued that the decision was necessary for the economic survival of the country. President Tinubu’s decision to remove subsidy on PMS is line with the advisory of the International Monetary Fund(IMF).

However, IMF has denied encouraging the Nigeria’s authority to remove subsidy on PMS. In a statement the international body released to the effect, it claimed that the Tinubu’s administration decision to remove subsidy on PMS was domestic and was not in any way influenced by IMF.

While social and political commentators have appealed to the government to restore subsidy on PMS due to its dire economic impact on Nigerians, president Bola Ahmed Tinubu has severally in his public speeches reiterated that “subsidy is gone”.

Despite the outset of the Dangote Refinery which promised to make petroleum products available to the Nigerian populace, Nigerians still grapple with fuel scarcity. The product is also sold across the country at exorbitant rates and there appear to be no sight of its ending soon.
