Patience Jonathan has responded to calls from sections of the country for her husband, Goodluck Ebele Jonathan to join the 2027 presidential race.

Goodluck Ebele Jonathan was heavily speculated before the 2023 presidential election to have acceded to pressure from groups and powerful individuals to contest for the president on the platform of the All Progressive Congress (APC). There were reports that a social cultural group purchased the hundred million naira presidential ticket of the APC for the former president. However, the name of the former president neither featured in the APC presidential primary election that produced Bola Ahmed Tinubu nor did he attend the party’s presidential primary election.

As Nigerians are becoming increasingly dissatisfied with the current administration of Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration, some have appealed to the former president to consider joining the presidential race in 2027.

However, Patience Jonathan has ruled out the possibility of her husband contesting in the 2027 presidential election. While hosting the Greater Igbo Forum in Abuja, the former first lady stated that her husband has occupied prominent political positions in the country; hence, feels that he has contributed immensely to the nation’s political leadership and considers vying for the post of the president of Nigeria unnecessary after leading the country for six years.

“My husband has reached the pinnacle of political office. What is he looking for again? We are not going in again”,she said

She added that herself and her husband are committed to providing support to president Tinubu’s administration.

She appealed to Ndi Igbo to remain committed to the nation’s unity rather than being obsessed about the sit of the president.

She said it is important Nigerians from all ethnicity focus on Nigeria’s collective good rather than sectional or individual ambitions
