The founder of the Adoration Ministry Enugu Nigeria, reverend father Ejike Mbaka has on Sunday during his sermon, urged president Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration to either “sit up or sit down”.
In a strong worded appeal, the Catholic priest lamented over the increasing hardship in Nigeria. He said Nigerians are currently dying due to hunger and lack. Despite ruling out protest as a way to bring the government attention to the ongoing economic doom in Nigeria, the priest said Nigerians barely afford what to eat these days.
“I am not talking about protest but I mean that the present government should sit up or sit down and plan on what to do to ameliorate the suffering of the poor masses. Mortuaries are being filled with people who died out of hopelessness. It’s even affecting the spirituality and morality of our people. People cannot eat. Imagine a parent with six children, how many cups of garri will they eat in a day?”
Father Mbaka however exonerated president Tinubu from blame. He said recent economic crisis Nigeria is grappling with should be blamed on the administration of Muhammadu Buhari for taking Nigeria into too much debts which currently haunt president Tinubu’s administration.
He said that president Tinubu’s administration has been caged through borrowing as he is expected not to default in Nigeria’s loan repayments; the reason the county has little or nothing to care for its citizens other than repaying loans.
“Nigeria is perpetually borrowing and borrowing. Some of you may be blaming the present government not knowing that they have been caged. The money the last government burrowed, I don’t think the present government can finish paying it. Remember when they give you the money, you use what you have as collateral.
“Nigeria is locked up, Nigeria is under a siege, Nigeria is caged, Nigeria is passing through a casket experience. We need to be unlocked.”
Further Mbaka further lamented that the current economic situation of the country has made life unbearable for Nigerians. He enjoined the president to secure the services of experts who will take Nigerians out of the current hurdle. He accused president Tinubu’s current economic team of being incompetent and lacking the needed expertise to handle the country’s failing economy.
“We cannot continue like this. Shall we continue like this? Never we cannot. I am not blaming anybody but I am thinking that if they cannot provide solution, you look for those who can provide solution. I am not blaming the present government but I am noticing that there are many square pegs in round holes, people who do not know how to solve problems”.
