It is being speculated that Omoleye Sowore’s wife, Opeyemi Sowore reportedly left him for his unnamed friend while he was in detention in Nigeria.

An X user and ardent supporter of president Bola Ahmed Tinubu: @Gen_Bushar in response to Sowore’s tweet encouraging ongoing #EndBadGovernanceprotest in Nigeria, insinuated that Sowore is going through some mental health crisis following betrayal from his wife who abandoned him for his close friend while he was in detention in Nigeria. He added that Sowore’s call for continued protest in Nigeria be ignored.

“This animal is facing a lot now. He loses (lost) his wife to a friend in the US when serving as a prisoner in Nigeria. Please ignore him”, he wrote.

Buhur’s allegation has sparked speculation on Nigeria’s social media space as many now wonder whether or not Sowore’s wife actually abandoned him for another man.

Fact Check:

Omoleye Sowore returned to the US in 2024 after the Federal government of Nigeria discontinued its treasonable felony charges against him at the high Court. The activist had his passport which had been seized  by Nigeria’s authority for a period of five year returned to him; an event which made it impossible for the activist cum politician to see his family across those years.

Sowore upon arriving in the US, shared a picture of himself with his children and wife who came to welcome him at the airport against the speculation that his wife had broken ties with him.

Also, a source close Sowore’s wife when contacted by the Reliant News stated that “Sowore is happily reunited with his wife, Opeyemi Sowore who wouldn’t do such a thing against a man she has children with and has so much belief in as well as love. “Such a speculation is from the pit of hell and aimed at tarnishing Sowore’s image”, the source said.
