Court of Appeal sitting in Abuja has squashed suits challenging Hope Uzodinma’s Imo State November 11th, 2023 governorship election victory.

The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and its candidate in the November 11th Imo State governorship election, Samuel Anyawu approached the court of appeal following unfavourable judgement at the Imo State governorship election tribunal which upheld governor Hope Uzodinma as the winner of the November 11th election.

The PDP and its candidate sought the cancelation of the Imo State November 11th governorship election citing violation of the Nigeria’s electoral laws as well as allegation of governor Hope Uzodinma submitting a forged WAEC certificate to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

The Appeal court ruled that the appellate failed to prove their allegations and that the appeals lacked merit.

The suits of the Labour Party candidate, Achonu Nneji and that of the Allied Movements were also dismissed by the court for lack of merit.

The appeal court’s judgement further upholds the decision of the Imo State governorship election tribunal which had held that governor Hope Uzodinma is the authentic winner of the November 11th, 2023 Imo State governorship election.

Recall that the election was reported marred by violence, vote buying, and security officers aiding electoral malpractices. Videos and images of already thumb-printed ballot papers in favour of a political party were replete of the Nigeria’s social media space during and after the election.
